Sun Koshi or Sona Koshi mention as the river of gold. According to local languages sun means gold and koshi means river. It is believed that name of the Sun koshi became because of the gold occasionally picked up with the gravels or color of the water that loaded with alluvium during the monsoon season. Sun Koshi River is also known as Matsang Tsangpo in Tibet, suffix of Tsangpo indicates a river flowing from or along Tsang i.e. Tibet west of Lhasa.
The Sun Koshi is used for both rafting and intermediate kayaking that has a grade of III-IV rapids. The best common point of a Sun koshi River trip is at Dolaghat with an altitude of 620m (2,030 ft) and will end at the Chatra Gorge at an altitude of 115m (2,030 ft) with a distance of approximately 272 km (169 m).Many companies will offer commercial rafting trio on this river because of being GRG’S adventure Kayaking that is run by Nepal’s top Kayaker. During March-June or Sept-Nov it will be the best season for this rafting trail.
