About Nepal

Nepal is a small and beautiful country with great diversity. It has the highest valley in the world- Arun valley as well as the deepest gorge- Kaligandaki. The variation in altitudes also affects climates that traveling from the south to the north within a length of only 100 kilometers will take you from a hot tropical climate to teeth-biting arctic-level cold. Even with these, Nepal has four seasons destination. Nepal is filled with many of these unusual and interesting facts; from man who has climbed to  Everest for 24 times to knowing that the famous personality Sir Edmund Hillary led an expedition to find Yeti, keep reading to know the interesting facts about trekking in Nepal.


Facts about trekking in Nepal

Greetings

Starting with the custom greetings. The standard form of greeting in Nepal is “Namaste”; pronounced- /ˈnʌməsteɪ/. To perform Namaste, join your palms together pointing your fingers upward hence bowing a little and saying Namaste in a polite and respectful manner. Travelers greet with Namaste if came across or to start a conversation.


Tigers

“Tx2” programme conducted by World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) which aims to double the number of tigers from all over the world by 2022; Nepal is headed to become the first country to double its tiger population before the deadline.


Protected Areas

At present, Nepal has nine national parks, three wildlife reserves, one heritage reserve, three conservation areas, and 11 buffer zones covering a total area of 28,959.67 km sq. Altogether these areas constitute 19.67% of the country’s land area which is an amazing commitment for conservation.


Highest Peak

Mera Peak (6,476 meters) is the highest trekking peak of Nepal. You can see five 8,000m mighty peaks from the summit of Mera Peak like: Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Kanchenjunga.


 Furthest Point

If you want to reach to the furthest spot for trekking in Nepal then visit Nameha Barwa and Nanga Parbat. Nameha Barwa (7,600 m) peak is the easternmost and Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) is the westernmost peak of the Himalaya. Nanga Parbat is also nicknamed  as “Killer Mountain” because of its high number of climber fatalities.  It is the ninth highest mountain in the world at 8,126 meters (26,660 ft) above sea level.


Solo ascent without oxygen

Reinhold Andreas Messner, was the first person to make the solo ascent of Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen and also was the first climber to ascend all fourteen peaks over 8,000 meters (26,000 ft) above sea level.

The tourist number to visit Everest region was recorded at 36,694 in 2016. Where as more than 300 people have died attempting to reach the summit till now.


Highest ascent of Mt Everest

Kami Rita Sherpa holds the record for the most ascent of Mount Everest. He scaled the mountain for the 24th time on 21 May, 2019. This bold and brave 49 years old man has announced media that he planned to ascend Everest 25 times before he retires.


Deepest canyon


The deepest canyon on the Earth, Kali Gandaki canyon with 4,375 meters depth lies on Nepal. The measurement was done  between the river height and the height of the highest peaks on either side.


The legend of Yeti


People believe that Yeti inhabits in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is a mysterious ape-like creature taller than an average human similar to the North America’s Big Foot. We can also assure you that yeti wouldn’t look as cute as the picture if they ever exist.  What really interesting is, Sir Edmund Hillary himself led an expedition in 1958 to find the Yeti. Sadly, it did not succeed.
