Bhutan Tour 6 Nights 7 Days is basically a cultural trip taking you through four districts of Paro, Thimphu, Wangdi and Punakha. Some of the attractions of this cultural trip is the drive through winding roads and high passes. On the way to Punakha, you will stop for a short while at Dochula Pass, (Alt. 3,050m) if the weather permits, you will have spectacular view of the massive eastern Himalayan ranges. Punakha is the old capital of Bhutan and is the summer resides of the ‘Je Khenpo’ the Chief Abbot. During this trip, you will be visiting, Dzongs (Fortress), National Museum, National Library, Painting School, Folk Heritage Museum, and Handicraft Emporium and also see the various colors of natural vegetation.
On arrival at Paro International Airport, after completing immigration and custom formalities, you will be received by your tour guide from Tour Bhutan and escorted to hotel. After lunch/Brief Refreshment, visit the Ta-Dzong (National Museum) located on a promontory overlooking the valley. The building was originally built as a watchtower for the Dzong.
It now houses a fine collection of national costumes and fabrics, an extensive gallery of Thangkas, impressive stamp gallery and the other galleries showcasing armor and silverware. Visit the Ringpung Dzong which houses the office of the district governor and district monastic body. Walk down the stone path and through the traditional wooden bridge, which is one of the fine specimens of Bhutanese architecture. Overnight at Hotel.
Paro – sightseeing Morning, drive to Drugyal Dzong, which is 16 Kms away from the town. The Dzong though in ruins played a very important role in defending the valley from Tibetan Invasion and it was built to commemorate the victory over the Tibetan forces. Drive back to Ramthangka to hike up to the view point of Taktsang (Tiger’s nest) (2,950m).
The round trip will take about three hours. After a brief refreshment at Taktsang cafeteria, you can take a walk little higher to have a closer view point of Taktsang monastery. Legend says that in the 8th century, Guru Rimpoche who is regarded as the second Buddha meditated here for sometime. The place now is one of the holiest pilgrim sites for the Mahayana Buddhist. After lunch, retreat back to hotel. On the way, visit the 7th century Kyichu temple built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gambo. IN the evening explore the Paro village town.Overnight at Hotel.
After breakfast, drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. On arrival at Thimphu, sight seeing before lunch includes visits to the National Memorial Chorten, Sangyegang viewpoint, Mothithang mini zoo to see the National Animal of Bhutan (Takin) and Drupthop Lhakhang, one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.
After lunch, visit to National Library, (it has a vast collection of ancient manuscripts and religion art facts), National Painting School, (where students are taught painting, calligraphy, embroidery, wood carving, sculpture), Folk Heritage museum is dedicated to connecting people to the Bhutanese rural past through exhibits demonstration, educational programmes and documentation of rural life and drive back to hotel. IN the late afternoon after the office hours, visit the Tashicho Dzong. The Dzong houses both the office of His Majesty, the King and the summer residence of His Holiness the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot).
Day begins with a drive up to Bhutan Telecom tower at Sangaygang to do a short hike to Wangditse Goemba, which was founded in the 18th century by the eight desi. The hike will start from the BBS tower till Dechenphodrang, through the pine forest.
On this trail you can also see and enjoy a beautiful Thimphu city view. The hike will take about 1hour 30minutes. From Dechenphodrang, you can either travel by vehicle or take a leisure walk back to Thimphu city. After lunch, visit Traditional Paper factory, Bhutan Postal Office, Weaving center, Handicrafts emporium to see the Bhutanese hand-woven textiles and other crafts. Evening explore Thimphu city. Overnight at Hotel.
Right after the breakfast, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,150 m). While at Dochula, one can witness hundreds of fluttering prayer flags surrounding 108 small Chortens (stupas) and breath taking views of Bhutan’s mountains (if weather permits) are visual reminders of this sacred junction. Then continue your journey, descending down through magnolia and rhododendron forests on to the tropical valley of Punakha.
After lunch, drive 30 min to the north of Punakha Dzong to visit Khamsung Yuelley Namgyal temple. From the road point, it takes about 45 min hike up through the village to the temple. On your way back, visit Punakha Dzong, the former capital of Bhutan, now serving as the district administrative center and also the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot). Punakha Dzong built was in 1637 and is beautifully located in between the two rivers called Pho (male) and Mo (female) chhu (river). The first historical National Assembly was also held in this Dzong in 1953. Also explore Punakha village town on the way to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
After breakfast, drive to Wangdi. En-route, visit Chhimi Lhakhang, which is located on the hilltop. The temple is also known as ‘temple of fertility’. The hike will take you through village and the rice field about 30minutes from the main road. After winding up this visit continue drive to Wangdi to visit Wangdi Phodrang Dzong. This Dzong was founded by the Zhabdrung in 1639. It is situated on the hill with a commanding view of the valley.
It is believed that the protective deity, Yeshi Gonpo told Zhabdrung that if he builts a dzong on the ridge, he would be able to bring the whole country under his power. Also visit Wangdi town and then continue your drive back to Paro en-route Dochula Pass. Stop at Dochula cafeteria for lunch. After lunch continue your drive to Paro. If time permits, visit to Dzongdrakha (Above the Bondey village), a meditation place of Guri Rimpoche, clings to the rocks above. Overnight at Hotel.
Early breakfast and drive to the airport for your onward destination.
