Trekking Equipment and Gears

The adventure trips are exciting and thrilling but it is also equally dangerous and life-threatening. The famous proverb “Prevention is better than cure” is very applicable here. It requires proper trekking gears and equipment for completing an adventurous trip. The trekking equipment and gear can sometimes be a lifesaving material for you.

The type and quantity of equipment required differs from different perspectives like: altitude, travelling season, temperature, number of days, weather conditions etc. There are some gears and equipment that can be untaken for reasons like cost reduction, weight reduction, suitability but some are utmost important which cannot be missed.

The gears and equipment used in trekking are listed below:

For Head:

  • Sun hat or scarf
  • Light balaclava or warm fleece hat
  • Sunglasses with UV protection
  • Sunscreen lotion/sun balm

For upper Body:

  • Few Shirts / T-shirts as your requirement  
  • Light and expedition weight thermal tops
  • Fleece jacket or pullover
  • Fleece Wind-Stopper jacket (optional)
  • Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell jacket
  • Down vest and/or jacket

For Hands:

  • Lightweight warm gloves plus thick gloves (if you are going higher)

Lower Body:

  • Underwear normal quantity
  • Hiking shorts
  • Lightweight cotton long pants
  • Light and expedition weight thermal bottoms
  • Fleece or wool pants
  • Waterproof (preferably breathable fabric) shell pants

For Foots:

  • Thin, lightweight inner socks  
  • Thick, warm wool hiking socks
  • Hiking boots with spare laces
  • Camp shoes (sneakers and/or sandals)
  • Gaiters

Accessories:

  • Sleeping bag rated to below zero degrees  
  • Headlamp (e.g. Pretzel Zoom) with spare bulbs and batteries
  • Small pad or combination lock-to-lock trek bag
  • Basic First Aid Kit (see Health and Medicinal)
  • Large plastic bags - for keeping items dry inside trek bag
  • Day-pack (approximately 2500 to 3000 cubic inches)
  • Water bottles  
  • Toiletries
  • Small wash towel
  • Walking sticks
  • Camera with spare batteries and films, Reading materials, game items, notebooks, rubber band, pen and pencil,envelope, a dairy, a calendar, a pocketknife, binoculars (optional), small pillow or headrest (optional), passport and passport size photos for your visa on arrival in international Airport (better to bring 5 copy), Personal medicine.
  • And additional item as your wish

Couple of important tips for you:

  • Pack your essentials very precisely; avoid heavy clothes and things. Heavy weights will make your journey exhausting rather than exciting.
  • Remember the number of days you are traveling, time of the year and altitude you are going at.
