Kathmandu, March 19
The Government of Nepal has removed the existing 7-day home quarantine provision for foreign tourists entering Nepal.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Tourism, Taranath Adhikari, said that the cabinet meeting held on Thursday evening removed the provision after the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation proposed removing it.
The spokesperson said that the ministry has made arrangements to allow entry for foreign tourists into Nepal without any need for home quarantine provided that negative report of PCR examination 72 hours before their originating flight.
Tourists are also required to provide one of the followings:
a) Issued visa from relevant country's Nepali Mission or
b) Proof of vaccination against Covid-19 or
c) Recommendation Letter to participate in tourism activities
The official further said that it has also been decided to issue on-arrival visas for tourists entering from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
As of now, tourists who wanted to visit Nepal had to come only with an issued visa from the Nepali Mission abroad on the recommendation of travel agencies in Nepal.
Similarly, the provision of 5 thousand US dollars Corona insurance for foreign tourists coming to Nepal has been removed. Now, tourists will only need to take out travel insurance.
Earlier, the tourism businessmen had demanded to remove the provision of home quarantine, saying that it was not effective. The tourism-related organizations also had been demanding that home quarantine and insurance requirements should be removed to improve the economy of the tourism sector in Nepal as well as making easy for tourists to come to Nepal.
